I've seen so-called "box dollars" offered by Jonathan Kern in Coin World ads, as well as from other dealers. These are supposedly genuine US Trade dollars that were cut in half, hollowed out, and fitted with a hidden hinge. The box dollar was then used to smuggle opium during the late 1800's. I don't know how true the legend is, but the coins are definitely available!
