Got this quarter as change and it sounded different when I put it in my pocket...like a silver coin. Turned it over and it looked funny. It is thinner and lighter than any normal quarter and looks copper colored on one side. Any help would be appreciated.

It may be an improper annealed planchet. I am not sure though. If you want to check this out try: http://www.error-ref.com/improper-annealing.html

Hope this helps, but I am sure someone with alot more knowledge than I will come along shortly.

From the images provided it maybe a missing clad on the obverse. If it is, then it is a great find.

And an accurate weight too. If it is missing the clad layer it is a VERY nice find indeed.

Everything looks, and by your description, sounds correct for a pre strike missing clad layer error. It seems to have weaker than normal details which is consistent with other genuine errors and the color is right. If you can get better pics or even scans to verify, that would be great!
