Roman Imperials are my main focus of collecting but as a side diversion, I have decided to put together a small collection of notable figures in world history.

This coin of Alexander will be part of that collection. Not the best condition but it was cheap. Might have to upgrade it at a later time.

Alexander III the Great (336 - 321 B.C.)
AE 18, 336 - 323 B.C., Pella?, 18.2mm, 7.69g, 90°, Sear 6741.
Obv: Head of Heracles right wearing lion skin.
Rev: AΛEΞANÎ"POY Thunderbolt, club, bow and case.

Congrats on your first Greek! It's a nice one.

Neat idea to collect some notable characters and add to or upgrade as time goes by.

Thanks Doucet. I thought it would be a fun one to do.

The ones I have in mind so far are:

Darius I & Xerxes I
Philip II of Macedon
Alexander III the Great
Qin Shi Huang
Scipio Africanus
Cleopatra VII
Marc Antony
(I will include some of my Romans here like Augustus, Marcus Aurelius Constaintine I and Julius Caesar when I finally get that one)
Justinian I
Heraclius
Basil II
Richard I the Lionheart
Edward I Longshanks
Henry V
Ferdinand II and Isabella I
Henry VIII
Elizabeth I
Louis XIV
Peter I the Great
George III
Catherine II the Great
Joseph II
Napoléon Bonaparte
Queen Victoria

There are a few others I would really like to include but will likely not be able afford like Hannibal, William the Conquerer, Charlemagne and a few others.

Its a very nice Alexander and has a beautiful 'hard' green patina. One of the reasons I like bronzes so much is these were the coins of everyday life. They got used. Silver got buried under the dog house. A nice clean one is a 'find'.

Interesting way to collect, and to educate someone else who may otherwise have little or no interest in numismatics.
For instance my niece has a pHd in archeology with emphasis in Roman sociology, but only considers coins as a fairly minor, but essential support tool to her study.
