In a story in the Detroit Free Press a man in Waterford MI filled 150 dime wrappers with pennies, (Yeh I know they are cents) and exchanged them at a local bank. They bank gave him the $750 for his $75 investment and he calmly walked out the door. If it was not for the pesky video cameras, he would not have been identified. He is on the run and will be charged with misdemeanor fraud, when caught.

I am suprised it is only a misdemeanor and not felony bank robbery.

lol, I think it's the bank's fault as well for not opening the rolls to verify the contents, last week I deposited $115 in dollar rolls, nickel rolls, dime rolls and penny rolls and they did not get counted as well. So while it is the man's fault for purposely commiting fraud, the bank should feel dumb for not inspecting them

The guy's a crook and I, for one, hope that he is caught and punished. I suspect the bank, and others, will continue to implement policies that will make it harder for honest collectors to return rolls of coins.

It is the banks fault as well, they should have checked the rolls.

At Easter, my kids were involved in an Easter egg hunt where change was put into the plastic eggs as well as candy. My kids took in between $12 - $20 in change each. When we took their little plastic bags of coins to the bank to change them, the teller said they had to be rolled before she could exchange them. I figured it would be easier for them to see and count the chage themselves. So home we went and rolled it all. I threw in about $50 in rolls just to make the bank work a little harder.

Stupid on the banks behalf. They should WEIGH the rolls to determine their worth. They could have been filled with modelling clay for all they knew.

I did the same at a local bank. My kids and I went through old change and just put all of it in a couple of big jars. We took it to the bank and they said I didn't even have to sort the coins. Their coin sorter did all the work, took all the coins and gave us a check. Did not even have to roll them myself.

Why aren't more banks like this? It seems very convenient for the customer....

my bank will not take rolls it all goes in the hopper, and the tellers hate that sound.
Rest in Peace

I'm surprised that cents will fit in dime wrappers.

Speaking of rolls, I recently had some problems, but perhaps it was because I used one of those litle coin counters you can buy at Walmart. I took about a year's acumulation of coins into my credit union for deposit. A few days later I received a notice in the mail that my rolls were $9 short. To this day I don't believe that was possible. A couple months later I took in another big quantity of rolls. Perfect! Not a penny (I mean cent!) off. Hard to understand.
