You Vs. NGC On Two Morgans - Coin Community Forum

I thought this process would teach me more about grading, but it seems to instead be teaching me about the extreme inconsistencies of grading. Here are two Morgans for your grading. Pretty much twin photos of each. Four and four. I'd consider one of them to be on the money or slightly overgraded and one to be substantially undergraded. But, what are your opinions? My guess on grade MS64, due to a few light marks on the obverse. coin B NGC MS-63. My guess on grade MS-64, overall nice. Report this Post to the Staff
Kman Pillar of the Community Canada 933 Posts	Posted 03/04/2013 9:10 pm First is ms62 maybe AU58 very deep gouges on cheek and neck, rim dings and obverse field scratches, reverse may have kept it in MS cause it looks nice. NathanASE Pillar of the Community United States 1511 Posts	Posted 03/04/2013 9:25 pm I'd say MS-63 on the first.. Just a bit of clatter on the face and kneck and a rim ding across from the forehead. The second I'd have to say MS-64, very light face marks, a decent hit on the kneck but nothing too bad at all, good fields.. Very nice Morgan!! The reverse is stunning on both of them!! Wow.. From the amount of marks on the front, (which isn't many at all) you're think there would be at least a scuff on the back, there super clean! Two very nice Morgan's you have there! Very nice indeed! D0ubl3Eagle Pillar of the Community United States 5854 Posts	Posted 03/04/2013 11:12 pm I will venture a guess the first one was graded MS-64 and the second one was graded AU-58. I am not totally sure if the second coin was given that grade since the cheek is not as well lit as on the first coin but patch of small marks, scuffing, and small hairlines resembles friction.
