I am trying to finish my modern half collection...
I wasn't to concerned until I hit the Olympic coins of the mid 90's but I got by. I was feeling pretty good and realized I didn't have the Army half from 2011. Man do I feel like a fool for not buying this when I could have from the mint.
So how many if anyone else has this collection? Do you feel like it might be the most over priced or ? I admit the 1996 swimming half had me baffled and I was really stumbling when I saw some of the prices for it and the soccer half. I even feel like a I made a steal on mine and then I realized these are modern 50 cent pieces that I paid big money for...

I collect all of the modern commemoratives - half-dollars, silver dollars and gold coins - in uncirculated.
The "expensive" half-dollars have largely come down in price from their historic highs, it will be interesting to watch them to see if they continue to come down or rebound and go up again.
Stay tuned!

Im doing a ms half set me self and feel if anything theyre undervalued for the 70s. Some of them have extremely low populations yet compared to other series are still affordable coins. Very underrated series as well

I just started. I've jumped in with classic commems and modern halves at the same time. So far my only real steal was the 86 half for $3 shipped to the door. Looking at some of them, I'm just amazed at where they go with price. I think that for the 90%ers I can understand their premium. Some of the others though... WOW. Of course the commems are tricky. The Army coins are going to be gobbled up by all of the military spouses and family members, many will go as gifts to the military members. Scouts will be picking up their coins. Its all a matter of who the coin is made for. The Army half is a really good one, because we have so many serving today and so many proud patriots that will flock to those coins.
Personally, I'm going to say the modern commems are overpriced. Too late for me though, I'm hooked.

RES...I am kind of hooked as well. Until I started looking at the modern halves I never realized how unique they were. I had a vague idea they were just smaller versions of the Silver dollars...shame on me.
I haven't stolen any yet, I might have come close - with the 95/96 Olympic coins for $160 in the Young Collectors set. (then I realized that I paid $160 for $2 in clad coins).
I might switch to doing a graded version at some point, but right now I am just trying to build the set.

This is interesting. The biggie I am looking for is an Oregon, which I will take my time on and then my '83, '84 and '85 3cns (which will take years to find the ones I want). Y'all may have pushed me to catch up on the halves...

Kelly good luck with the Oregon! That is one of my favorites because both the Obverse and Reverse have interesting designs. Some of the classics have one or the other, but that one has both to me. I got a rare treat this weekend and there was a local coin show... except the coins were pricey! Good thing I was broke when I went in...

I like the modern commem halves because they are very unique. I am not exactly in love with some of the designs on certain ones, but overall they are all VERY different from modern coins, which when compared to the commems, are kind of boring.
