This is one of the very first coins that got me into collecting. I got this with a few others due to a service I completed, back when I knew nothing of coins and just thought a dime from 1841 was pretty cool.
Anyway, I've always liked this dime but I never liked that little indentation in the middle. Just now I was looking at it and wondering if it could be a counterstamp, I've never thought of it before.
It doesn't seem to have any real defined shape but it looks more like a clean punch than anything to me.
Also the wear on the back leads me to believe it was punched a long time ago, it left a raised area on the reverse, and was more susceptible to wear.
What do you guys think?
