I just had a small comment to make on the new $100 bills that are supposed to be released some time this year. Last Friday, I cashed my check, and I wanted mostly $100 bills, but the credit union said that they did not have any $100s available.

So I was wondering what you guys think of this. What I am thinking is, maybe they are getting ready to announce the release date for the new colorized $100 bills, and maybe they are beginning to pull all old $100s out of circulation early, because, from what I read time and time again in the past, the government wants the colorized $100s to dominate the $100 denomination as soon as possible. So, although its kind of early to start doing so, do you think that the Federal Reserve is already pulling old $100s from circulation, and shredding them, so that people will have no choice but to use the new design when they flood the nation with the new $100s? I know its early, but I was still able to get $1s-$50s (except no $2 bills either) from my local credit union, but no $100s (or $2s), so I was wondering, do you think its possible that, even with a six months notice planned for the release of the new $100s that they might be starting to pull older $100s from circulation and expecting people to use $50s for a short period of time instead? OR are some of you other people still able to get $100s? I'm going out on a long stretch here, and this is just a wild guess, but, are $100 bills getting rare in your area?

Why not ask someone at the credit union why they did not have any $100.00s? They are more likely to be able to answer this question.

I don't think they are pulling $100 yet. I am not sure why your CU didn't have any $100 but that happens a lot. My niece went to cash a tax refund check a few years ago and was told they had no $50 or $100 and in fact they wanted her to come back in a few days to cash her check because they did not have enough cash "on hand" as they put it, and no the check was not all that much. You should ask your CU and see what they tell you.

Fox, I wanna see the new $100 bills as much as you do but I think your credit union just ran out of $100 bills. It is tax season after all and I suppose $50 and $100 bills will be in high demand. They always have been either way especially in foreign countries where the U.S. $100 bill is still popular like always.
Who knows if this year will Actually be the year the new $100 comes along, It will be here when we start seeing it in circulation.

The mostly likely explanation is usually the correct one. They didn't have any $100s simply because they were out. With that said, I would love to hear your take on the JFK assassination or the moon landing.
