I guess this person is trying to say that they pulled this coin out of a Mint set. Just trying to see who takes the bait. Where is the TRUTH in advertising?

You mean the mint does not seal their coins in cardboard 2x2's with staples?

I just sent this email to the seller:

This coin is not "mint sealed". The US Mint does not "seal" coins in 2x2 and staple them. The Mint also does not grade coins. Most employees there don't have the slightest clue what the difference is between an MS63 and MS64 coin. In fact, most don't know that MS stands for Mint State. As this auction is, you are severely misrepresenting this coin. Just wanted to let you know as a negative with only 38 feedback could really hurt you.

Got my response from the seller:

Ive sold enough things on ebay and have had no problems! I didnt ask for your opinion, so keep it to yourself. You might have 138, but not 100% positive, I DO ! What happened with Vetrina67?Dont try to bust my balls, just dont buy my coins, others will and there happy! I will be sure and add your user id to be blocked from ever bidding on any of my coins!

As a result, I strongly recommend avoiding this seller. (BTW, I contacted her under my buyer ID (sul9) which only has 138 FB.) This seller is a prime example of why there needs to be better policing of the ebay site.

The lack of knowledge of basic spelling and grammar among E-bay sellers can be a bit depressing at times.

Wow, what a reaction! This guy doesn't want anyone to expose him! He should be banned for misleading auctions. Maybe we sould contact ebay's coin division for this sellers misrepresentation.

I would have already if this auction hadn't ended. They have tried to list a number of US coins and none have sold. They have had some success with some foreign ones, however. This was the only one that was "mint sealed". The others are just grossly overgraded.

I forwarded this auction to the U.S. Mint. They are taking steps to eliminate the missuse of their name and products.

Obviousily this guy knows all there is to know about coins and selling on ebay. Heck, he has been a registered user now for 3 MONTHS !!!!!

I am going to to email him also, just for fun......

Here is my message to him:

Hi,

Just thought I would let you know that your 76 D Ike dollar is not a mint sealed item. They do not seal coins in cardboard 2x2's and staple them closed. I do not know how or why it got stamped as such.

Good luck selling on ebay it is a fantastic place.

Take Care,

Larry

This sellers response is typical of someone who gets caught and lashes out rather than admiting a mistake and thanking the person for politely pointing it out. That person might be standing out on a window ledge as we speak![:0] Lots of anger there!!!Mike

Not yet, but my newest contact at the Mint has given me the impression that the Mint is putting together the necessary tools to go after people and companies that misrepresent the U.S. Mint name and products. A new law was written this year allowing the Mint to fine companies and individuals for this type of false marketing. The fines can be up to $5000 for the first violation. $25,000 for subsequent violations.
This may very well be the tool that puts ebay and their sellers in line.

I just e-mailed this seller with the piece of legislation. Here's what I wrote:

Hello, this e-mail is in regard to your recently ended auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...1516036&rd=1

Your advertising of this coin is in error. The mint doesn't sell coins sealed in 2x2 holders stapled shut. You may not have had any complaints from your buyers, however there are many uninformed buyers out there. You may want to read the following piece of legislation from the United States Mint in regards to using the mint's name to misrepresent a product. The fine is quite harsh. Just want to save a fellow eBayer some hassle.

United States Mint Seeks To Protect Consumers and Hobby From Misuse of Official Name and Emblems

http://usmint.gov/pressroom/index.c...lease&ID=557

I don't plan to bid on your auctions nor am I interested in them. I am a collector just trying to make ebay a better place for all coin collectors, old and new.

David

Why do I think your email will go over like a lead balloon?
