Be careful guys, I just received a fake email this morning on a phishing expedition from supposedly ebay stating the following:
"Dear joeblow@youremail.com" <<<(changed for my security)

"During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we could not verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete.

As a result, your access to bid or buy on ebay has been restricted.

According to our site policy you will have to confirm that you are the real owner of the ebay account by log in and verify your identity or else your account will be suspended without the right to register again with ebay.

Click on the link below in order to login and verify your information:

http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (<<<<<deleted to protect our members here)

Thank you

ebay Customer Support"

I XXX out webpage cause I don't want anybody here clicking on to it--They also managed to send message to my "private" email account which only way to get is thru ebay, by either a sale I had or something I purchased--So it is from within there community--Also I went ahead and clicked on it and insulted the creatures with my verbal insult page 101 in there information spaces--they want to know everything about you, ebay user & p/w, credit card#, home address, SS number, bank and account numbers & p/w (what balls), paypal user and passwords, if you reply to these scum-bags, they can & will steal your identity so be careful & all your money and can cause heavy damage. Looks like a new wave is being sent out. I went ahead and sent ebays safeharbor the info--I can't believe these idiots continue to spoof & phish--Should you get one, forward it to ebays at spoof@ebay.com. They say they forward to the "authorities" what ever that means..

The latest scam I have received is one from " ebay" stating that a fraud complaint had been filed against me because someone bid on a Pep Boys Gift Certificate and I never shipped it. Of course, I don't sell gift certificates, so someone must have "broken into" my ebay account and sold it under my name. No problem, just click on the link and fill out your entire life history of personal information and everything will be cleared up........riiiiiight.

The biggest red flag for these sorts of scams is that they are usuall addressed to "Member" or your email address. When/If ebay or Paypal ever sends and email, they use my first and last name. Just a tip.

I fell victim to one of these emails two 1/2 years ago. I am very vigilant about proctecting my idenity. However, it was about 3am, and I was very tired. I had a couple of auctions (selling) pending and got this email. The email told me to respond or my account would be placed on hold until I could verify my identity. Needless to say I clicked the link within the email. Next thing you know, my account is suspended do to others selling false auctions with their newly aquired ebay account (mine). I had to change everything. Not just ebay PWs and email address. Closed bank account and opened new ones. New credit card and debit card. Change PWs on all websites. Left a fraud alert with all 3 credit beaureus.

There is actually a very good one out there now. It comes under the guise of an "ask an ebay member a question" email. They look very real.

The only give away is at the very top. A legit email will have your ebay id and the real name on the account.

They have even masked the url on the sign-in page it takes you to. It appears to be the real ebay sign-in URL.

I don't report them to ebay any more. I look at the source code of the email and get the domain of the fake sign-in page that they link to. Then I go to http://www.dnsstuff.com/ and get the IP and hosting company. It gives you the abuse email to the host. I then forward the email to them. The site is always taken down within an hour.
