Wifey and I are planning on going to Ottawa in early May and I would like to go on whatever RCM tours are available. Can anyone here report on how they are and what types of items they might have available for purchase at the Mint?

Anything else coin related to see there? Any type of a currency museum in the area?

I highly recommend the tour of the mint. My wife and I went there last summer and we really enjoyed it. In the boutique, you will find many of the coins that the mint is currently selling on their website. You can have your picture taken while you hold a nice big pure gold bar.

You also might enjoy the Currency Museum.

My wife and I went to the Mint in Ottawa about a year ago. Man, it puts the US Mint here in Denver to shame. The tour was light years better and the coins you can purchase in the gift shop were amazing! We picked up a Titanic silver coin, along with a couple other beauties. Definitely tour the Parliament then walk over to the currency museum a few blocks away. We stayed at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier which was also AWESOME!! Maybe go see an Ottawa Senators hockey game too!

The wife and I went in 2007. I had to visit twice when we were there. It is an unforgettable experience. Don't forget to take lots of money with you into the boutique. In my change from there I got mint state 50 year old change.
In a back room just off the boutique a person could make there own token. Have fun.

Currency museum is a must. Many of the coins are not available right now, but the ones that are make it worth while (including one of the two 1911 silver dollars).

The currency museum is closing in July, so I'd encourage you to go there as well...
