During the last postal strike CCN put out one time downloadable digital issue. But now they are introducing an online version available by subscription.
Same price as paper copy subscription, or you can get both for some unspecified discount.
Will you go digital, stick with paper, or get both?

I'll stick with paper ... I hate reading off a screen. Paper is transportable and, for me, a digital copy isn't. I wouldn't own a cellphone or I-Phone or whatever the things are called nowadays, if someone bought it for me and paid all the annual & user fees. I retired to get away from that crap .. I don't need one in my pocket.

Paper, especially if its the same price. Like they said, its fun to get it everyday in the mail, and, in replacement for the free paper, I'll actually read this one.

Interesting, pros and cons to both....I like the paper...however, for archiving, IMO the digital would be better. Also if you ever have to look something up, you can search the digital version (if searchable and not a scan). If you read something in the digital version that you always want to refer back to, you can always rename the file with a hint of the info in the file name. I will have to check it out....

I wonder if the digital version will have a proofreader. The paper version is full of egregious errors.

Digital for me.No waiting for delivery.Very portable.Easy access to past articles.No clutter of back issues.Less wasted paper.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

After working-on and using computers, with the subsequent eyestrain, for the last fifty years, I'll vote for paper anytime. I can't stand the thought that books and bookstores may be on their way out.

From the description it won't be downloadable.
"That means you can read Canadian Coin News anywhere you have access to the Internet..."
To me a major plus would be access digitally to the trends data, but, I gave my doubts it will be possible.

The demo is PDF format and is searchable, and it can be saved to your computer.
IF they are all like that, then I am in.
IF they are not in a PDF format that can't be saved for future reference, I am out.

From what they say on the site, this is just a .pdf copy of the printed paper. In a much smaller format. So who needs that? The only I can see it becoming viable is if it comes out with a lot more updates, like twice a week or so. But that would just kill off the print copy - eventually. Of course, that's probably inevitable anyway, so this is probably the first tentative step into the future of digital newspapers paid for with electronic money that awaits us all.

Just like with my ANA NUMISMATIST I will go for both versions. Love getting something tangible in the post and also being able to read it online as well. CCN is not anywhere near perfect but it is absolutely necessary to the Canadian hobby and market. |

I am happy with the paper, it much more personal and I can sit and read it anywhere also travel with it. Share it with others and the Grandkids spend much time looking threw the pics. To me, it would be like loseing to penny.

Well, I signed up for the digital version of CCN. Within two days I received the 26 Mar copy via e-mail. The link included in the e-mail "took" me to a neat site where one can read the magazine in PDF format. One can also download and keep on the hard drive to read "off-line"; which is fantastic. So far so good. The only drawback is the fact that it cannot be printed...oh well if I wanted a hard copy I would get the paper version right?
