A customer asked me if I'd be interested in a silver dollar. Naturally, I said yes. He then produced this little lady from his wallet. He told me he needed 20 dollars for gas so I gave him 25. He informed me that it had been in his wallet for approximately 4 years. He also claimed if he knew it was worth 25 he would have sold it a long time ago. I like the way the leather has stained the coin. Gives it a pinch of character.

VERY nice, mds. A "pinch of character?" I dealer acquaintance of mine displays an ASE carried as a pocket piece. Even more worn than your example, it still has a lot of character. As for the price, both of you were happy and that it is what counts. Fair all around. An ounce, is an ounce, is an ounce!

It must have been his lucky dollar, lucky for him to have found someone with your character. Someone else would have recognized his desperation and offered him $15. Nice story , good for you

That's how it's done. Carry around an ounce until you really need it. It's too bad it was for gasoline because he must've really been in a bind to get home. A good transaction! I kind of want to make a hybrid thread now of "if you could stick one ounce of silver in your wallet what would it be?" It would probably be ASE because of the high resale value, especially if you're in a sticky situation.

I like the highlighting the leather gave the ASE. It actually brings out a lot of the details.

Nice eye appeal. It kinda has an "antiqued" look to it. John1

Before I created this post I was tempted to drop her in a refreshing acetone bath. I really do like the handled look so I decided to leave her 'au natural.'

I'm tempted to put one in my wallet to see how she looks after four years. Kudos for not taking advantage of the guy.

Great looking ASE and even better story behind it. That was a class move.

Very attractive coin. I've never seen an ASE that looks like it has a job and goes out for beers after work..

Nice, I too like the way it's worn and dirty.

At first glance it has all the look and character of an old Walking Liberty half dollar. It's like antique aging without the time requirements.
