I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether these are planchet errors or PMD. The coins in question are from 1968 and 1969.

All look like rim damage to me. So IMO all are PMD, sorry.
Coins really do cop a beating while they are circulating. Some people do all sorts of nasty things to them.

Yes, that's certainly true - but I was studying a webpage on planchet errors on American coins the other day and many of the errors depicted on that page seemed to me to be very difficult to distinguish from PMD. So I'm posting images of coins that look similar to some of the coins on the American website.

I suppose this in a good example of what you're talking about!

But how would I be able to tell that it wasn't a planchet error?

I think the file marks are pretty obvious on that one jimjamtwo, studying thousands of coins is the way to go & eventually you'll get it.
You can learn a lot from following error coins on ebay,if your not sure their genuine just ask here & someone will help.
Don't believe everything you read in listings, there are some not so honest people around.
