Watching the Coin Show on the Shopping Channel. The guy currently has 73 boxes of unopened pennies date stamped the last day of penny production. This is the last day of a 4 day show. I'm wondering what this means for the last million pennies? I'm sure he Had more than 73 last day boxes. Also I'm wondering what people think of owning a box of pennies, you there not open because the value would drop. I don't see the box as attractive ! It's almost like the wrapped penny where you cannot see the coins. I'm wondering what the collecting community thinks! Rox

Just letting you know your topic about gals in coin collecting got moved to the family forum. You never responded so I was guessing that you didn't know what happened to it. Here's the link. https://goccf.com/t/142938&whichpage=1

I just sold all 28 boxes that I had. Didn't think they were worth saving. Way to many out there. I kept a few rolls.

Thanks for the link, I just thought it had got deleted. I'm still learning the ropes !! The Steven guy was selling them at $390 A box and they were moving. I learned a lot of coin history listening to him. He is saying the magnetic ones are ultra rare, about 1 in 3000. His company did a study of circulation pennies prior to their being pulled. He had some beautiful presentation wooden cases for his collections. The crazy thing a lot of his high priced items were sell outs. Like the half oz penny at $70. He was saying the boxes of pennies increased in price from his last visit. He was forecasting these rolls being very valuable in the future. Citing a roll of 1991 quarters being worth $500. That one crazy price for a roll of quarters. I wonder if its true? He moved 200 silver proof 2013 sets. He sold out on a bank note collection worth $7000. I must say the coins come alive on TV. The mint site doesn't do them justice. I wonder why the mint doesn't post actual photos? I like to see the real thing not A sketch. Rox

I wonder if he's actually selling them or making it appear that way.

there was a few rolls of 1991 25cents recently sold at Moore auction for over 400.00 a roll, the 2012 pennies are not rare the 300 to 400 million produced are almost all hoarded

Last day of production boxes. 20000 rolls of the last pennies put into circulation.
Cleverly worded the rolls, meaning they weren't necessarily the last million produced. But, I suppose all could be from the last day along with the boxes.

There is a counter on the TV screen, and it counts down as he talks about the item. He seems to bring a large number of each item to the show. Saturday he sold 230 half ounce O Canada subscriptions. He talks a good game, I Was nearly sucked into $288 worth of giftware and 2000 era quarter last Canada. After looking on ebay, I determined they were over valued and the quarters I could find in change. So I returned the set, I did keep the 2010 silver proof set and 2012 specimen sets. It launched my son and I into collecting, and not just from pocket change. Since then I've learned a ton, and what to stay away from. It's my hope some of the silver coins I pay over $25 will retain some of their value for when I pass them to my son . I learned most giftware is a poor investment and hasn't the quality of proof coins. He had really talked up the value of the sets and of course they sold out . I like the payment plan as it allows me to buy coins I could not afford. I do think new collectors my get fooled by the sales pitch. The pennies were being hyped as a key date already. He also talked plenty about how rare it was to find a 2012 penny in circulation ! He was selling 1982 fifty cent pieces certified Ms 65 for $59 and Ms 66 was around either $150 or 199.00, I can't exactly remember. It was outrageous prices and some sold out too. The stuff at release prices were great, but other items over hyped. Rox
