I watched a movie last night, called "Session 9". The movie wasn't too good, but there was one good scene I thought I would tell you about. The movie is about a group of contractors who are working in a disued insane asylum, removing all the old asbestos. Anyway, at one point, one of the guys wanders off and sees a Morgan dollar on the floor, then he sees another. He follows this trail of Morgan dollars to a crack in the wall where there is more Morgans coming out. He removes a brick and Morgan dollars just pour out in the thousands. Now I am jealous. this guy has a bag full of Morgans and I have none. At this point I decide I have to get a Morgan dollar. So the point of this post is, what is a good entry point Morgan to buy without spending too much money? Does anyone have one for sale? Steve

Wait that's not fair! What happens next in the movie? I'm guessin it ends very badly for the new found numismatic. I'm also trying to set a few Morgans just to have. Not too keen on collecting at the moment until I have a LOT of information of what grading and fakes and such. I'll just be happy with my meager US coins and my hoards of foreign money.

The common date/high mintage Morgans will not cost that much, even when graded by a top TPG. Much depends on your definition of "too much money". With the exception of a few keys, most of the "o" and "p" mint coins would be between $20-$50 in low mint state.

Graceoutcast, You will have to hire out the movie to find out Muckeye, My wife could use a good sewing machine, but it's not on the list of priorities, it would never get enough use to justify the expense. Steve

if you're interested in just getting a coin or two, I would suggest trying to find an 1881s or 1882s. you can get prooflike unc. for very cheap. there are so many that were kept in bags in bank vaults for decades.

There's always a few on the Australian ebay just dont expect mind blowing coins. If you want real nice ones you'll have to go to the US. I picked up an UNC and an aUNC 1921 for about AU$60 for the pair. They are nice things to have.

Following forum member's suggestion, I got 1881-S PCGS MS64 from royaltycoins.com. It is very nice.

I have been offline for over a week, but I would now like to thank Tights24, ChristinaM, and Madspec for the coins I have received. I would also like to thank Collect4fun for trading, but I haven't received them yet. I never realised the Morgan dollar was so big. They are beautiful coins. I may have to collect a few more in the future. Here are some pics of what I have so far... Steve

Hi triggersmob. Good to see another Aussie who has been bitten by the Morgan bug. You have some nice looking coins there. I like the history behind these coins and must say the morgans are perhaps my favorite coin. ( hope I dont offend all the other Aussies with a comment like that..lol) I have a morgan on a key chain with my car keys and the coin has caught the eye of many people and has been the start of quite a few good conversations. I also enjoyed the movie and would love to come across a hoard like that...lol

Draknoor, I hope you didn't drill a hole in a Morgan. There could be collectors fainting all over the forum. LOL Steve
