My wife recently decided she was burnt out on the Statehood Quarter Spoons she had been purchasing from the U.S. Mint. I wondered if she really would stick to it and couldn't make myself believe they would ever be worth anything in the future. Well, to make a long story short she decided to start selling them off, one at a time on ebay, and the wait was on. While a few have sold for a dollar or two most have reached the $20 to $50 range which is pretty amazing for a spoon. Then came KENTUCKY which sold a couple of weeks ago for $127.50! I was amazed beyond all doubt that anyone would pay such a price for a spoon. Little did I know North Carolina was coming up last weekend and, within a matter of two days it reached $216.00, and all I could do was watch with amazement. Last Saturday night it sold for, brace yourself, a whopping $546.00!!! I guess I am shocked at what some collectors will do to finally have a set of anything but just can't figure how an $8 spoon (actually $13 with shipping charges) can reach those kind of levels so quickly? Now I am wishing I had been an avid Statehood SPOON collector so I to could raise a few bucks to put back into REAL coinage!!! All I can do is shake my head in wonder!!!

Be sure to pass our congratulations on to your wife for her wise investment! It's always good to hear that someone, somewhere, has hit the jackpot.

What I would like to know is, are you going to be bidding on the spoons that she puts up with Buffalo's on them. If that should happen, you had better be saving up your loose change and getting prepared.

Thanks Longnine! Been fighting a huge computer glitch that was anti-coin collecting! Bobby and Rui finally did something to straighten the thing out or perhaps the glitch moved on to another computer! Either way I am finally back!
