Hello:
I recently purchased this large medal. I had it tested at the local jewelry store and it tested as 6-7 Karat gold. It measures approx. 4" long by 2 1/2" wide and weighs approx. 1 3/4 ounces. I cannot seem to find another medal like this so I was hoping someone on this forum may be able to help. I get the feeling it is from France or Liberia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Jason

Is the design part in the bottom set into the rest of the medal? It does not look to me like it was made like a coin from a mint, based on the pictures. Why do you think it is from Liberia or France?

It looks like some type of Military Order from where I don't know. It's a beautiful piece though.

The round part with the image of the seated woman is raised above the star. It does not appear to have been made all in one piece. The reason I believe it to be French or Liberian is because I have seen other order medals with the same star pattern on them from Liberia, which I believe was under French rule.

Liberia has never been under French rule.
