Greetings from the USA. I'm doing some research for a friend who is a buyer/seller. He has in his possession a NGC slabbed proof 1967 Swan Goose Pattern AUS 1 dollar coin by Meszaros. It is smooth edged. there is no case. I don't have this coin in front of me, but I think it was graded MS-67. It is not a matte-proof. I know that this pattern dollar is valuable. I am looking for some info from the Aussie group about this pattern dollar. My knowledge for Australian coins is limited to coppers.
1). Are these pattern dollars numbered? If yes, where should I look for the numbering? 2). I'm seeing pricing around 2,000 AUS dollars for this pattern dollar. I haven't seen a price for a slabbed one. What sales price would be reasonable for one slabbed by NGC and graded MS-67? 3). Anything else I should look for?
Thanks for the help.

the "swan" pattern or "Goose" dollar wasn't minted by the Australian government mints, It was privately minted. Having said that they ARE a valuable item. they were produced in silver and gold. Silver milled edge mintage 1,500 $2500 silver proof plain edge mintage 750 $2750 gold proof plain edge mintage 10 $15.000 Looks like yours is a proof coin with the plain edge.

I did read-up a bit more in the meantime and yes, they were not minted in Australia. I found two old threads here in CCF that were useful, as well as a nice article on the designer from the Perth Mint. I'll see the pattern dollar tomorrow and take some pics. Thanks.

The coin was designed by Andor Mezaros, (now deceased). His son is still active in coin and medal design.

The goose dollar is WAY too rich for my blood but I do however have the 2009 "Goose" 20 cents with a mintage of 2500. This coin was produced at an Australian mint and it IS legal tender. I wonder if this baby will be worth a small fortune in the future like the goose dollar

Thanks for all the info. What an interesting story behind the minting of this pattern dollar. I am going to have this pattern coin in hand in a few hours and will take some pics and post them here. The owner of the pattern coin did confirm to me this morning that it is graded NGC PF-67, but I haven't seen the slab yet myself. I haven't seen any (so far) with this grade so I'm wondering if there is a premium for it above what I am seeing. Anyway, I'll get the pics up soon. He's bringing a bunch of other slabbed proof and UNC foreign coins. Perhaps there is something else in there from Australia.

Here are today's pics taken with my phone (I can get better pics with my camera if needed). I haven't come across an NGC PF-67 in the auction archives. Any comments?

I only have a free membership at NGC so I cannot see the census report. I do however, see a pop of 1 for PF-67 when I enter the NGC number of the one I have posted the pics for. Obviously the pop of 1 is this pattern dollar. Are there any others above this grade? Thanks.

67 is the highest grade on the NGC pop from what I can see.
X-M2 MESZAROS - SILVER PFCA 1 in the 67 column
X-M2 MESZAROS - SILVER PFUC 1 in the 67 column
Bold is the coin in the pic ^^^.

Thanks very much. From what I gather, from PCGS and NGC, there is only 1 coin out there with a higher grade. This pattern coin is part of a lot of about 16-17 foreign proof commemoratives (all NGC slabbed, mostly high-grade proofs from the 60's and 70's)that I'll probably buy and try to re-sell. I have more time to do this than the current owner, who has sold some of the proofs on e-bay but hasn't had so muck luck with the remaining ones. I might even list them here in our auction/pin section. Perhaps a way to offer them (including the 1967 Australian pattern coin)to CCF members before they hit the wider net. So, be on the lookout. Thanks for everyone's help.

No. It has gone for auction. I will post the auction details when they are confirmed. I know that in this auction there are two for sale, the one I have shown and another which I think is in a slightly lower grade. By the way, I believe your e-mail is turned off. I get the message that you do not wish to receive e-mails.
