Hello guy's
I found this 1989D lincoln this morning. The mintmark looks broken.
Could that broke during minting ?The piece that broke of th MM is still on the coin.
Or is that PMD?
Thank you

Looks like a RPM to the southeast. also looks like it took some damage in circulation. I could not find a match however on coppercoins.

That is the same offset direction associated with die wear as well as most plating issues.

That would be a split plating problem, the gray showing would be the zinc core.

John1 or Coop, could it just be a die gouge? I said RPM but they stopped hand punching before that date, my mistake.

Edit..1989 is the last year for hand stamping...I am a dummy.

The area in question sort of matches what is missing off the mint mark. I wondered if it was transferred to that area. But you say it's not. I tried an overlay for a RPM and couldn't say it was close enough to be a RPM. So at this point, I just don't know. I would mark it and keep it in file and sometime when you submit it to coppercoins (With others that you want to have attributed) you might have it look at it and see what he thinks.
