I think I'm being blind here because I can't see how to quote people in threads in your replies.
Do I have to manually copy and paste their quotes into forum BB code?

From FAQ "Find the text you want to quote and highlight it with your mouse. Then you will want to copy it to your clipboard. How to do this varies sometimes with different computers. Usually hitting Ctrl-C or right-clicking and selecting Copy will do the trick. Then you need to paste it in your post. Click in the post box then usually Ctrl-V or right-clicking and selecting Paste will do it. Now highlight the text in the post box and click on above the post box which will automatically surround the text with the Quote: tags." Can't quote in "quick reply," but doing above in "reply to topic" I cannot find the "click above the post box" Hopefully a mod will enlighten us.

Quote: Do I have to manually copy and paste their quotes into forum BB code? Yes ! No offense to the forum, but it is not as elegant as some other forums.

So making things difficult for members, keeps out the interlopers ? If you say so

If you really want difficult, that can be arranged. I think people get lazy if things are too easy. Seriously, it just means that we have to take the extra step. It gives us a chance to think before we quote.

Quote: So making things difficult for members, keeps out the interlopers ? You're right, it's so dreadfully difficult I'm sure people quit over it every day. Not surprised at all people would whine over this since half the younger generation today is too lazy to spell out complete words, tie their shoes, pick up their feet when they walk, and pull their pants up.

It's not difficult, but it sure is a pain.
Thanks for the help everyone.

One of our goals is readability. I don't know how many of you know what a pile of nested quotes looks like, but if you play hard enough with them it becomes recursive and almost unreadable. Heck, I was part of an effort that literally crashed a forum, years back, with a 1000(ish)-post nest.
When you're quoting someone, you're quoting one person. If I'm reading your input, why should I have to slog through 5 other people's nested posts just to read what you think about what one person had to say?
Nested posts are an annoyance and rarely clarify. Occasionally, they do, and if it's that important to you then it's worth the minor additional effort.
