Hi, just wondering what forum members are thinking about the NZ Hobbit coins the RAM is putting out? I'm wondering if there is the thought that they will become desirable (mintage unlimited!) collector items in the years to come ... or are they just movie merchandising sucker items?

Never ever buy those coins, you will never ever get back what you paid today.

While I am interested in the Hobbit movie (mostly because I love the book and want more people to read it) I would only buy those if I could get them cheap and consider them to be a sucker item. That being said there are a lot of suckers out there and you might be able to find some big suckers. Look at what people pay for Star Wars/Star Trek cheap crap...

I think that this was rather an unexpected money.

Since people can't just frodo away, I'm guessing that Hades will be thorin before many buy these.

Personally, rather than the Hobbit, I prefer the Lord of the ring pulls, namely VB, so I might invest in some slabbed versions of that.

Since the mintage is uncirculated ones is unlimited I'm wondering if some of them will be bagend.

The following are some links in case anyone wants a gandalf.

I would go with the monopoly coins. Only 36 sets yesterday. Coins of the worlds most iconic board game! That will be a winner!
