Hi, I don't do much with the ancients. But I liked this one, and it was pretty cheap. Can someone tell me what it is made of, and it's rarity. Assuming that it is genuine. If it is not will you please let me know?

This is a late Roman bronze coin of the emperor Constantius II with the reverse of Fel Temp Reparatio (losey translated to (Happy Days are Here again). This is a fairly common coin, thought it is fromn the Alexandria mint value is small. Not worth much more than $10.

Its genuine but has been badly treated and overcleaned. Its made of bronze and the design is FEL TEMP (soldier spearing a fallen horseman). That reverse type is the most common one (well, say some). This particular mint and officina is rated as C2 - basically Common.

I cant say much for the headware - looks bare headed which isn't listed in RIC but is just as common as the Phrygian cap variety which is listed.

Constantius is Pearl Diademed, draped and cuirassed on this coin.

Its RIC ID is Alexandria 80 - or Alexandria 80 Var if its bare headed.

It looks fine to me. Unless it is a rare/very sought after type, counterfeiters usually won't fake late Roman bronzes..
