What do you all think on these? I have XF+ on the 2CP, XF40 on the 1854 Large Cent, and VF35 on the 1847 Large Cent. Am I too generous?

I'd say EF40 details- corroded on the 2¢
and VF25 on the large cent.

I don't think it's corroded on the 2cent...it's more like dirt and grime than corrosion. There are two large cents BTW. What about the other one?

I could be wrong, the photos are a bit dark under exposed and not quite sharp in focus. I'm going off the area from 3:00 to 5:00 on the obverse rim and fields. A good long soak in acetone and a gentle touch with a q-tip could improve this coin probably, I would do that, but maybe not the "q-tip part" if you have no experience in preserving vs. cleaning a coin. The acetone will help dislodge grime and won't hurt the coin nor change the appearance of it.

I think I'll let it soak a little tonight. Good idea. Not real sure about q-tipping it...when in doubt, don't....right?

I think you are 5-10 points too generous on each coin. I think it's VF-35, VF-35, VF-25. I agree that the 2C piece looks off. Either cleaned and retoned dark or corroded. You normally don't see them that color and the surfaces seem rough. Not knocking it just telling you what I see. It's still a great piece of American history from the civil war era.

Don't worry about knocking it. I appreciate everyones input. I said XF on the 2CP because the detail is still there....just look at how bold the "WE" is. I'll let you all take a look after it soaks a little while in acetone. Thanks again for your input.
