I'd have to check with the wife but it looks like higher fees to me. They have been offering 50 free listings for the last year with final value fees in the 8-9% range. A quick skim of the article makes it sound like it's still 50 free listings with 10% final value fee. The wife handles the ebay sales dept for me so maybe someone that has a better grasp of the change could comment.

Watch out, it may be the ol' switcheroo/diversion tactic...they did not mention any change in Paypal fees (which will probably absorb any lesser fees from ebay), it is required for ebay transactions...if I'm not mistaken.

Ill have to wait and see what they actually do. It sounds like some things may be cheaper but a lot of things will be more expensive especially if you arent a market place

I'll have to do some +-*/ but it might almost be cheaper for me to open a store... I like that the free listings acan be BIN or auction, but not sure if I like it for an extra percent.

The fees are going up. They are offering some services to compensate for it like free listings can be BIN or auction, BIN can list till the sell free, or a free auction ending tool. It appears you can get a slight discount if you buy a store but have to do the math on how much you sell a month and what you sell it for. I did some calculations and it would be a little cheaper to open the $20 a month store but not by much and you have to pay up front. It is too bad the free auction sites get no traffic. Problem with them is you get so much junk on them since it is free and it doesn't cost them if it doesn't sell.

Now that I think about it werent the BIN fees higher before for cheap items? Seems like this encourages more BIN listings than auctions if so. In a way that makes sense since theyre trying to steal the Amazon sellers, but at the same time they get a TON of business from people selling random things so not sure its smart to jack the prices up on them The problem with the free sites is you get what you pay for. The buyers have no protection there so they dont look there. ebay fees and Amazon fees will eventually get high enough theres no savings and a new eBay/Amazon will open up. This of course will just be the same cycle all over again, starts out friendly to get users and jacks up fees over time till they kill their own popularity

The only good think I see is they are removing listing fees for BIN. Otherwise they are increasing already stifling final value fees from 9% to 10%. May make sense for someone selling high margin DVDs/Software but not for someone trying to sell some bullion.

The real difference is in higher priced items, for example under the old fee scheme ebay would charge someone who sold a $2000 coin $82.50 in final value fees. With the new scheme this jumps to a $200 final value fee, well over a 100% increase in fees. Even if you open a store with the lower fee rate of 7% the seller of that same $2000 coin would still have to pay $140 in final value fees. The only people who benefit are sales under $50, which see a 1% reduction in fees without a store, and a 3% reduction in fees with a store. Any sale over $50 will see much much higher final value fees in the new scheme (or scam in my opinion).~~~~

That's not necessarily a bad thing - ebay is no longer a place where those who have $2000 to spend on a coin care to shop. Too often, that high-dollar item is a scam of some sort. In that sense, it's a positive.

The only benefit I see is if you sell low cost coins and want to list them BIN. Mostly everyone's fees are going up and ebay is somehow countering it by offering additional services. The free sites do offer buyer protection if you use Paypal and/or a credit card. I filed a claim with Paypal from Webstore once when all the coins I received were harshly cleaned but the seller hid the fact in the picture.

For auction style listings all sales under $2500 will be negatively impacted. If you sell anything as a buy it now between the price range of $50 and $10,375 you will see massive fee increases. For buy it now sales under $50 you may see some minute savings, and for buy it now sales sales over $10,375 you will actually see significant savings in fees as a fee cap is now put in place (but how many people here actually sell stuff priced over $10,375). The fee savings advantage for listing things as buy it nows will entirely disappear unless you subscribe to a store.

So now the question is how much do you have to spend a month for the BIN savings to pay for the store if not more
