got a box today,opened it and one roll stood out(there brinks clear plastic) it had this dark coin.


A-Black-Beauty?t's au/bu,5 grams,dosen't look to be plated, is this what they call a black beauty? mines a 2004.but looks like this mint luster and color depth.i posted in coin roll but I think it belongs here. thanks for any help LP

I believe the only known ones are from 1959 or somewhere around there. So it's highly unlikely that a 2004 nickel is a black beauty.

Dead easy to make a very effective make a black coin.

Just turn up the element on your electric stove to maximum, and rest a freshly minted nickel on it. It WILL turn black.
As soon as that happens, pick it up with tongs, and drop it into cold water. Do NOT use your fingers, or they will be severely burned.
I just put them back into circulation after that.

Lotsa fun.
It confuses most people including checkout chicks, who sometimes refuse them for payment, although they are still entirely genuine!

The easiest way to tell the difference is the black coins don't like hockey or NASCAR.
