I am looking to start an online coin shop and wanted some input from those with experience. I have already began testing the waters with this on ebay but we all know how flooded that place is.

So my main questions are:

Are sales steady?

What kind of traffic do you get using eCrater?

If you've used ebay before, which site has worked better for you?

I can offer competitive prices on good coins, but my concern is the value of the platform(eCrater).

I have about 100 coins in eCrater right now. I haven't added too many things lately. There seems to be modest traffic and I average one-two sales/month. Usually, when I am going to be out of town. So not great, but fine for me.

If I want to or must sell something, I go to ebay where I know I will sell it. Although, sometimes I haven't got what I thought it should sell for, plus the fees.

So if you must move inventory, ebay will get it done. If you are not in any hurry, eCrater might work for you.

I always check our members eCrater sites and look at our buy/sell section every day.

I don't like ecrater at all.

Now I loathe ebay, but continue to use it exclusively simply because it's the only viable option to really sell anything.

Duke's experience would seam to be fairly typical. It is my personal opinion that selling 2% of the coins you have up per month isn't acceptable regardless of if you want to move things out or not.

ebay fees (which are actually about to go up again) are still not really THAT high. I mentioned that I loathe ebay for some of their other policies and their lack of seller protection, not the overall business model.

I also have about 100 coins on ecrater.
Sales are sporadic but I get many hits of people who have looked at my coins.
I've made many sales by people I have never met with some being return buyers.
Yes it does not have the exposure ebay has but it doesn't have ridiculous fees either.
Make sure you promote your store through all the major search engines and accept all forms of payment.
Also it's very important to show potential buyers who you are in the About section.
Good luck!

ecrater is a good site. Try setting up a Google adwords account to it and put your link in a forum signature. Slower sales then ebay but less fees.
