Is it common for people to give you an offer below melt on coins listed as Buy it Now or Best offer on ebay? I had someone bid below melt for a VG Barber dime including shipping. I just had another bid $4 for a Standing quarter with free shipping. Are the figuring I would just bargain with them? I would sooner keep the coin than sell it for that. I know one option is to simply set to decline coins at a minimum amount.

Are you referring to an auction site ( ebay etc.) or some sort of bid/ask board? People can always throw in a bid of any amount on an auction with no reserve. Forgive me if I am misunderstanding your post.

I had to rewrite my post. I was referring to buy it now or best offer listings on ebay.
I realize that someone can throw any value they want out there. I am just wondering what the intention is knowing I will decline an unfair offer. I did notice a scratch on the Standing quarter I listed and got an offer of $4 with free shipping. I ended up pulling the listing. The Barber dime I listed which maybe graded VG10 will usually go for a premium but someone offered $1.75 with free shipping. After fees I am looking at less than a dollar. Like you said though if there is no reserve, they can throw any price at you.

Yes, they are likely trying to negotiate, although some are just "lowball hunters" and looking for the desperate. You can set an auto decline if you don't want to deal with those kinds of offers.

They dont know youll decline the order, but thats just one of those reasons why its not worth it to sell 5 dollar items on ebay. ebay is actually the worst place to sell junk silver, its absolutely everywhere on the site and really drives the value down

Yes, I found the best place to sell junk silver is a coin show. They pay a $1 under melt per $1 face and pay cash with no fees. ebay is good for those junk silver coins that fetch a premium like Morgans, Standing quarters, and Barbers.

While they may fit the bill Id say most people wouldnt lump those three types in with say worn pre 65 quarters or dimes, especially the morgans and barbers.

But I do agree you get better prices for those on ebay while the other stuff ebay holds back your price with how many are always available

yeah people are just trying to low ball you. I think they do it because it occasionally works. Many sellers simply don't have the patience to turn down offers if they don't get many. They're playing of seller's desperation.
