Question Concerning Highlights On 1853 Hd

I have seen this before on some graded Seated Liberty halves. Can anyone share why this appears on some coins, but not on others? Report this Post to the Staff

Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 03/21/2013 12:36 pm Actually it is the other way around, this is probably a relatively new die that was incompletely or improperly basined and you are seeing Longacre doubling. Yes Longacre doubling comes on the devices too and not just the lettering. With wear and polishing the doubling becomes weaker and fades away. Report this Post to the Staff
