I know every newbie thinks he's found the Holy Grail at one time. Here's mine. XBay item 390559948174 . Beware! Its in "circulated" condition!
I've compared it to pictures at coinfacts and Heritage (Breen-8003) and all the $3 souvenir tokens I could find.
The obverse has the die crack from 3 to 6 o'clock. The RI in "ORIGINALS" touch. The reverse has 19 buds on the left wreath and the bottom 3 touch the shield. The right wreath has a solid bud at its top end. The wreath bow and two on each side of "HALF DOL." are right. The shield is symmetrical with stepped bars. In this condition, its hard to tell if the lettering font is exactly right, but I think so? If there are any other different comparison points please let me know.
My concern (other than overall condition) is the surface pitting. Would this be correct for a white metal(tin) token with this much abuse? Or does this indicate a cast coin? (which would make this a fake)
Any and all comments are appreciated!

Does seem to have at least three diagnostics of the originals, which would rule out all but electrotype or die transfer copies. Can you even electrotype in white metal?

Interesting choice for Johnny Reb to employ the Liberty Cap so prominently in the design; it wasn't that long before the war that Southern congressmen were opposing a statue of Liberty in the Capitol because she had a Liberty Cap. Seems the early, Roman symbolism of the Cap was more than just freedom, but the freedom of the freed slave...
