Hi everybody! It's been quite a while since I've posted but I'm always reading and learning from this forum so I first want to thank you all for the great knowledge you have passed on to me and many others that read these forums. Ok, so I have a few coins to post and this is the first one. It is a 1939 penny that has half the lamination missing on the obverse. The reverse looks beat up from circulation, I think, and there is a black spot in the picture that I can't tell if it was scraped away or fell off at some point. If possible, I would appreciate any and all feedback, thank you in advance!

Hi chubbs...I would say it is lamination failure, and the dark spot may be dirt filling up the hole..I posted one of my Canadian pennies so you can see what your coin probably looked like before the lamination fell off.

Top coin could could be a delamination or PMD not 100% sure but the bottom coin is clearly an example of lamination (planchet defect) I have a U.S. penny with the same markings and I could share the post with ya, if you want.

Laminations usually follow a straight line. I'm not seeing this on your coin. Wert's coin show a lamination. To me your coin looks like an eye dropper with acid may have been dropped on you coin. The curved area would of the field would allow such damage. Happens in science classes.
