In February a local dealer sent a coin in to NGC at my request, he did say it would take 4 months or more. This sounded a bit long but I have waited longer for coins from the RCM to deliver their offerings, in the end it's really no big deal I guess.

Is his information accurate? It is "Coin Season" with all the shows running constantly so this does seem plausible.

Was the coin just getting graded?

If it was just getting graded 4 months is EXTREMELY slow. Even the slowest cheapest service at pcgs right now which is backed up and running slower than usual is still under 2 months.

Maybe your local dealer has to wait until he has enough coins to send to NGC. Most get a "deal" on sending "x" number of coins in for grading. It probably takes that long for him to accumulate the required number of submissions. My PCGS submissions take around two weeks. I normally do 8 coins per submission.

Just my humble opinion.

About a week after dropping the coin off he sent it out to NGC. Maybe I'll go visit him this weekend, Even with Customs it really shouldn't take longer than 2 months, Good.

When I told him I wanted NGC he said it took 4 months, then tried to get me to send it to ANACS. Okay so the End of April I should have the coin in hand again.

NGC shouldnt have the coins for longer than about 2 months give or take some at the very least. Never know with customs how stuff can get caught up but I cant imagine NGC themselves is really taking 4 months.

8 - 10 days seems to be the normal amount of time for orders to reach my house from the USA. Sometimes a bit longer, so at the most 3 weeks plus 2 months. Now I am looking forward on having the coin even more.

Thanks for your help carmykle and basebal21.

According to Micheal Bugeja at coinupdate.com World coins are supposed to take 24 days for NGC, PCGS has become as slow at 72 days turnaround for World Coin submissions.

PCGS is flooded for their world coins right now and they just started seriously doing them probably within the last year. Two year ago you wouldnt see them anywhere on ebay now you can find at least 1 example of most world coins on there. Thats only for their economy pre 1964 world coin service though their modern service is still in the 20 day range but their economy for world and US coins coins pre 64 is brutally slow for both right now.

Finally called my coin guy and he says the coin is ready from NGC for me to pick up. The coin arrived at his business a few days ago.

Happily the coin graded a bit better than what I thought at MS-62 which the best one found to date is graded MS-63. So far so good, looking forward to having it back.

The coin dealer sent the coin in to NGC on or about March 1, 2013.
