I just stopped by a local bank that I hadn't checked before. No one had loose halves, but they have a coin counter and told me they had bags of halves. I asked how many and they said 5 of the $1000 bags. At first I got excited, said I would take them and waited for the manager to grab them from the vault. I talked to the tellers while I waited and they told me about the "big collector" that brings tons of coins in and most of the halves are from him. "He looks for anything before 1960". I'm sure she was off by a decade, but I'll be looking anyway. Maybe he missed something. I will also be opening an account Monday at my new dump bank. Edited by WVBlueandGold 03/22/2013 1:55 pm

Good luck...
I hunted $500 in CWR halves when I had just started out. It was my first skunk box, although it was rich in marked halves.
I wish I'd taken pictures of all the marked coins I saw when I was hunting halves. I could've written a new book for the Whitman Co -- "Fat Freddy's Whitman Guidebook of Marked Halves"
Edit -- Please put in a post next week and let us know how the hunt went. Thanks.

@CoinCBass That was my thought too. I'm going in with low expectations, but I enjoy the hunt. Just finished the first bag. No silver, but I found 5 2004-S and 9 2005-S. Also, the very first coin that I pulled out of the bag was a 1987-S. My first one of those.

Bag #3 is in the books. 1979-S and 1980-S. The lack of silver was expected, but I'm enjoying the proofs.

Not everyone searches for the same thing.
You might not end up with any silver but you may fins some NIFC's, proofs, doubled dies, no FG's, etc.

I went back to the bank today to use the coin machine. After I dumped a bunch of nickels, I checked the reject bin. 1951 Quarter. 1947 Dime. Very nice. It also tells me that the machine rejects silver and I won't waste my time with bags of dimes and quarters. I still might try an occasional bag of halves for proofs and errors. The manager was very nice and said I could buy or dump anything I wanted.
