Hi everyone

Last week, I posted a picture of a SLQ 1917 that I found in some loose coins part of my Father's Canadian coin collection (mine now).
I found 2 more older coins. Would you tell me what they are, and grade them? The 1 cent looks very dirty, but I did not want to touch it without your opinion.

oh
em
gee

well Jo what you want to do is order a bottle of verdi chem/clear. ebay or google for a coin supply distributor here in the states

soak that puppy for an overnight in pure acetone as a start, covered
then I would personally, based on experience, soak for 4 hours in the verdi

your only issue is there might be a day late and dollar short scenario of surface corrosion under all of that and it will be pitted horrifically so its not worth touching at all

good luck
nice finds
love the columbus
that was handed out on 1892 at the Chicago hosting of the World Fair
dime a dozen collectible readily available in all grades but you've a nice circulated example

That cent is too far gone! I am a proponent of both but I really do not think acetone or Verdi-Care would even help.

The first coin is a commerative half dollar from the Columbian Exposition.

Commems did an interesting write up on the whole exposition, https://goccf.com/t/130118&SearchTe...lumbian,expo, you may find it interesting.

Appears you have your answers ... a few additions to the facts already shared ...

Your first coin is an 1893 Columbian Exposition half dollar ... issued in both 1892 and 1893 these were the first true commemorative coins of the USA.

Your 1893 Columbian is a common coin alas ... net distribution of 1,550,405 coins ... most of which found their way into circulation.

You Columbian half grades in the range of XF ... current market value a few dollars over spot silver ... call it $12 to $15.

That 1845 Large Cent is alas damaged/corroded beyond much numismatic value IMHO.

The Large Cent is beyond Verdi-care in my opinion. Value is about $2-$3.
