Hi All - I just got a couple of Whitman coin books and need some help in using them...

The first book is an ASE book which I have filled except for the "extra" spaces. could I put some of the "special" dollars from the mint in those as they come out? I have a burnished 2012 from the West Point mint for example...?

The second one is very exciting to me as I just came across the US Type set book, and have quite a few coins for it already.

1. I assume one should put the best coins in the book? Is this true even it it means breaking up mint sets?

2. I have some silver proofs (Ike, Kennedy) should I put those in or uncirculated coins only?

3. I am buying some of the older coins like the Liberty nickels and Halves. any ideas there - or just go to the dealers on line?

Thanks for any tips. I have been stacking silver for a while, and just realized that a lot of what I am stacking may be fun to collect!

Peace and Thanks!

It is your book, do what you want with it. Some people like to fill it up all at once, with whatever type they can find/afford. Some people like to take their time, make it a lifetime endeavour, choosing only a predetermined standard of coin.

Myself, I have ADD, if I added only 1 or 2 coins a year that were up to my standards, I would quickly lose interest. I fill mine up with what I can find/afford and then spend my years constantly upgrading my albums.

Your collection, your way. Welcome to the community.

Thanks for the welcome denco7 and Amida - especially for the Alastair Crowley quote and the general feeling that I won't be mocked for what I do.

Thanks again!

Like previously stated, if you want to put proof and uncirculated together, go for it. I don't ever mix them, but a friend of mine who recently started in the hobby mixes hers all the time as long as it is a year or type she needs to fill a hole. A collection is whatever you say it is.

Where did you find the U.S. Type Set album? I want to pick one of those up soon.
