I'm looking for ideas on the best way to store proof sets. I've got them all stored away (some years from 1959-1973 and most of the years from 1974-2012) in a cardboard box.

I was looking at the US Mint online catalog and they have 'boxes' they call "Collectors Boxes" in one lens or two lens versions. They don't have a description of the material or how the lenses are stored.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to find something that will be durable and attractive without breaking the bank?

I've seen albums where you can actually display both sides of the set.I don't own any,or even know what they are called, but I think they looked pretty good.I remember thinking how nice it looked being able to see all the sets by just turning the page.Hopefully someone with more knowledge than I can let us both know.
Welcome to the group!

I'd love to see that! I've only been able to find lined boxes where the lenses are stored in their own compartments. The Mint box comes with 10 slots (for double lenses).

All of mine are stored in cardboard boxes and have been there for a long, long time. No problems.

I had perhaps about 40 or so proof sets, that were given to me by my mother, and I have kept them for about 20 years. They were all delivered direct to her in mailer boxes. I kept these boxes in two large polystyrene foam cases, that were originally used for the delivery of fresh broccoli, which came via disposal from a fruit shop.

I don't have these anymore; I have since given the proof sets to my adult children. The proof sets remain in the original mailer boxes, in the polystyrene cases.
I also use use the large polystyrene cases for the long term storage of books. I have also included some naptha in with the books.

I'm looking for something with a little more eye appeal. The cardboard box currently used is fine for storage, but I'd like to make the proof sets more accessible. Putting them into a nice display box would be most appealing. I have seen some nice display boxes for slabbed coins. They are layered on shelves in a box that looks like a large humidor. These have a nice eye appeal. Something like that would be great, but I just haven't been able to find any...

Very nice!! I especially like the Whitman Proof storage box. It says they're velvet lined, but doesn't say what the frame is made from. I'm sending an email to the customer service guys to get that info....

Update: they're made of heavy duty cardboard and are extremely popular.
