It looks like a planchet defect called a lamination. Not really rare, it happens when metal separates usually due to impurities. Value estimates would have to come from an error expert.

Thank you for the info. Also to let you know the coin is less than half the thickness of a full coin. Very deep gouges

It's definitely worth keeping. As for value, I can't say exactly myself, but at least several bucks. Neat find!

I"d say it looks like a full planchet lamination error, worth a few bucks at the least, I'd slab it or see what Fred Weinberg has to say. Fred is the go to guy on error coins.
