Hi all,
I have a jar full of Mexican coins that I have saved over the years (up until about 20 years ago) and was told by someone that the coins made prior to the 90's were worthless due to a change over in currency? What year did they convert, and is there any value to the earlier coins? Thanks in advance and God bless...rcordell

The currency of Mexico changed due to inflation in 1993. When they came out with the Nuevo Peso. Essentially phasing out the Coins and bills prior to that. They let people change their old money for new at a rate around 1000 Pesos to 1 New Peso(OR something similar)

Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn't say worthless exactly - some of those coins have silver in them. Even some of the post-reform bimetallic coins have silver centers (20N$). Some of the coins you have may also have collector value - the smaller denominations are hard to come by in their later years (centavos from the early 70s, 5 centavos post-reform). They're not going to allow you to retire but I wouldn't chuck them either. It would be great to see pictures or a list of what you've got. Once you reach the minimum number of posts, ome people here might be interested in trading or buying them.

patrick,
Thank you for the welcome, I already feel at home here on CCF! I will dump these out on the dining room table and take a picture or two. Then I will try to get a list together of some of them. Thanks for the help and God bless you and yours. rcordell

CGCoins, patrick, and AirwOLF,
Thanks for the help, here are a few bad pictures of the lot!

I have more somewhere and will attempt to find them. However while you wait you can check these out and if you need any close ups, I can try my best to get some posted.

As it turned out the jar in question had a mixture of coins and I was happy to find a couple of Indian head pennies and a few Shillings! Take care, thanks again, and God bless...rcordell

beautifully , I see some silver coins in your collection left line # 2 was made in commemoration of Olympic games in 1968 with the design of the Aztec dancer , 0.720 fine silver with 0.5209 of pure silver , the # 4 with the press design and "casa de la moneda" with 33.625 gr and 1 Oz of content of Silver ... well I will stop here to give the chance to other people comment about that coins...
Nice collection ....

AirwOLF,
Doesn't look like anyone else wants to play. How about giving me a few more bits of information regarding the rest of the coins. Thanks in advance and God bless...rcordell
