I was wondering if I could get some advice, or help. I'm not really a coin collector, but I have a bunch of Susan B Anthony's, Ikes and also some Kennedy halves all in circulated condition. Initially I was just going to hang on to them and was trying to look them over, research, etc, but as stuff goes, something came up and could really use the little bit of extra cash. I do want to hang on to a handful of each but at this point I don't quite know if there's any in particular that maybe I should hang onto. And the ones I don't hang on to, judging from what I have (listed below), are these pretty much just a "take to the bank and get face value" or would it be worth any time to maybe sell on Craigslist or ebay? So here's what I have. Again all circulated at least a little as far as I can tell. Any help or suggestions appreciated! The numbers in parenthesis are the quantity I have **Susan Bs 1979-D (16 + 3 with a slightly different sheen to them â€" 19 total) 1979-P (11 + 1 with a slightly different sheen to it â€" 12 total) 1979-P (1) â€" Wide Rim/Near Date 1979-S (2) (I think these are S's, hard to tell) 1980-D (5) 1980-S (3) 1999-P (1) **Eisenhowers 1971 (5) 1971-D (8) 1972 (3) (two type 1's, one type 3 I believe) 1974 (1) 1976 (36) (all type 2's I believe) 1978 (1) **Kennedy Halves 1964-D (1) (Will probably hang onto this one) 1971 (2) 1971-D (9) 1972 (9) 1972-D (5) 1973 (1) 1973-D (1) 1974 (9) 1974-D (4) 1976 (13) 1976-D (3) 1977 (1) 1977-D (1) 1978-D (1) 1979 (2) 1981-D (3) 1981-P (1) 1982-P (2) 1983-P (3) 1984-P (2) 1989-D (1) 1989-P (3) 1990-D (1) 1990-P (2) 1991-P (2) 1993-P (1) 1994-D (3) 1994-P (2) 1995-P (1) 1996-D (2) 1997-P (1) **Kennedy Halves (Gold plated with 2 dates?) (these don't appear circulated) 1971 (1) 1982-P (1) 1983-P (1)

In circulated condition, the Kennedys are worth only face, except the 64 of course. The SBAs the same except for the near date. The Ikes you could get 1.50-2 bucks each depending, but not worth the effort of selling on ebay.

with Smokeriderdon. The 64D silver and the SBA's near date. There are some Ike's that are worth looking into varieties or silver. There might be some others not pointed out.

Thanks. I appreciate the responses. So it sounds like my best bet is to cash in for face value of what I don't want of the SBAs and halves, except for the '64 and near date. As for the Ikes, I did try to look into the varieties/types, and only came up with what I noted above as far as I can tell. But overall I could expect a little more than face for what I have of those if no varieties? I'm assuming the fees on ebay would eat into any extra amount over face value wouldn't make it worth it to go that route?

best bet would be to find someone will to buy them to complete theyre ike collection. e-bay will eat any profits above face and shipping. my wife got 3 ikes from the store and I know theyre worthless essentially but i hung onto them and even put them in mylars. what I'm basically saying is hang onto them if you want them if you dont drop by the bank and give someone else a shot to find them, or use them at the store for that what the heck is this effect.

Personally I would keep the Ikes. All of them. But I can be silly like that sometimes.

So many forget that. A lot depends on several things. For example how old are you? The reason I ask is if your young, keep them all unless you need money. Even antiques are not antiques when new. Possibly in about 20 or so years you'll be one of those people saying things like "Gee I wish I'd have kept all those" Sort of like how many times I've heard people say similar things about cars. "I used to have one of those" "My Dad had one of those" But like I said it many well depend on if you need money. Myself, I'd dump the baby dollars and keep the rest. But like I said, unless you need the money, someday you too may be saying "Glad I kept all those"

I'll echo the near date / silver being put to the side and just cashing in the rest.
I don't see any attrition rate or intrinsic worth that would increase the value of them over time.
Think 1976 quarter in Au condition. They still bring just under 26 cents. :-)

If you find someone who wants ikes as a curio, you usually can get a small premium, the problem is shipping, etc, eats into the small premium. As an example, I pick them up for around 1.50 each at times, counterstamp them and use them as geocache coins. And if you lived down the road I'd make the offer. But the logistics kill it unless you find someone near you.

The 64 Kennedy is 90% Silver; that's pretty common knowledge. What you might be interested to know is that the '65-'70's have melt value as they are 40% silver (the other portion is copper). So... each of those '65-70's is worth around $4.18 $28.28 = silver price / ounce on Mar 29, 2013. .40 = silver % $3.3971 = copper price / pound on Mar 29, 2013. .60 = copper % 11.5 = total weight in grams .0321507466 = ounce/gram conversion factor .00220462262 = pound/gram conversion factor 1. Calculate 40% silver value : (28.28 × .0321507466 × 11.5 × .40) = $4.1824263237 $4.1824 is the rounded silver value for the 1965-1970 silver Kennedy half dollar on March 29, 2013.

Thanks for all of the info, thoughts & suggestions everyone. I really appreciate it. I am definitely holding on to some of them.
Just Carl - I'm nearing 40. It really has been a debate with myself over keeping them all or using at least some of them to help with some things. I've caught myself saying "I wish I had hung onto such & such" about other things so I completely understand what you're saying. I guess my best of both worlds compromise of keeping some & letting some go seemed to be the best decision when I could use some of that extra money but don't want to part with them entirely.
BamaBlue, I don't have any of the '65-'70 halves, but that is good information to remember. Thanks for that!
