Hello graders,
I already had a G/AG example of the 1878-CC quarter and I wanted a nicer one. This coin just arrived in the mail and it's clearly an upgrade. What kind of a grade do you think it deserves, and does anyone see a reason it might be body-bagged at a TPG?
Thanks!

first impression is an AU55/58 - hard to tell if it has been cleaned. if it hasn't been cleaned, it might go MS60?

It is very nice . I see what appears to be Hairlines on the Obverse and reverse, can you tell me if they are on the devices as well or just in the fields . if they are just in the fields the lines may be in the planchet there fore not counting against you (as cleaning). Your photo is hard to grade by, the color is unusual (probably lighting ). I do not see any wear in your photo I do see the details vividly, and I Can not tell for sure but the left hand side of the shield almost appears to have a double appearance depending on the hairlines and based off of your photo I would Grade it MS-60.

I am curious to see what the results are I am grading with out a book. Yikes!! Maybe even Au-58 it is hard to tell if I see wear on the Focal points or not

I'd go with an AU grade. As far as cleaning, I'm not sure due to the focus of the photos. There could very well be hairline scratches on the obverse fields and around the ribbon on the reverse. Another area the looks odd is on the reverse around the leaves of the branch but I'm guessing that it just may be lighting as I see a similar coloration at the same 8 o'clock position on the obverse.

Overall, a pretty coin with lots of detail

Thanks for the input. I checked this coin under a microscope and there are definitely some very fine hairlines on both sides. They seem much more visible in the photos than when I'm looking at the coin. There is a bit of rub on Liberty's breast and right thigh and also on the eagle's talons. There is a moderate contact mark by star #13 and a light scratch hiding across Liberty's lap. The strike seems weak at the bottom reverse, possibly due to overpolishing of the die. Both sides retain very nice cartwheel luster.
The seller graded it as AU-55 and I think he's pretty much right on. I have some grading vouchers for ICG. Maybe I'll include this coin in my next submission.

IGC has spoken and the verdict is....AU-55! Just as the seller stated. See, it is possible to get nice coins on ebay! Here's the proof:

Nice Quarter! It's always good to see when raw coins come back graded respectfully! Congratz!
