It's an 1804 crosslet 4 with stems...I think it's in pretty good shape to be over 200 years old.

I like it allot, looks like it may have some porosity on it but I would still say it was an AU-58 condition coin

Thanks for the compliments...it's actually smooth as a baby's hiney with not a porous spot on it. Just that little contact mark at 10 o'clock.

When you all say it looks pourous, what do you mean? I know the definition in general, but not how it applies to coins

Hi Nelrak, that's a pretty nice coin!
"Porous" to me means that the surface of the coin has widespread tiny pits due to corrosion. Many (maybe most!) old coppers have this problem. A quick search on ebay for early Half Cents and large cents will find many examples ranging from slightly porous to heavily corroded.
This coin may not be porous but the overall look does suggest to me that it has been cleaned. It looks like a solid AU for detail but I would prefer to see it in a PCGS or NGC slab if I were considering a purchase.

What's with the area by the "A" in America? Is it the picture/scan? It looks like a stong strike. If that is the correct term.

Thanks for the inquiry, graceoutcast...I just look at it with my 16x loupe and it appears to be the picture intensifying it...it's just a shade lighter above that portion of the "A".

Jaolber, it appears to be uniformally "ever so slightly" porous under 16x magnification but it's not noticable with the naked eye or a 4x/6x glass. I would consider getting it graded however it wouldn't fit into my 7070 very well LOL

If it's not porous under 5X magnification it's probably not porous to any knowledgable buyer. You can take out a 100X microscope and the coin surfaces will look like it came from the ground after 100 years!
