Half Dimes have a unique charm all their own. I especially like Capped Bust Half Dimes for their beautiful design.

This one appears lightly circulated with strong detail and some mint luster remaining. It also looks like it has filed rims, a rim bump, and appears over-dipped. I would grade it AU+ Details - Light Damage. This coin could re-tone over time and be a very nice album piece.

thanks BH1964. I had thought it was dipped at some point. after posting the pics it also looks like it could have been whizzed based on the hairlines everywhere. can anyone comment on that?

Looks like mid to high AU details. It appears overdipped/cleaned and may have some rim damage. With whizzing, I think hairlines usually form a radial pattern since the goal is to simulate mint luster and the flow lines which create familiar cartwheel are created by metal flowing outward from the center. The coin does not appear to be whizzed. While I am not completely sure, the hairlines that I see look like they could be from circulation which is often considered market acceptable. For me, it was the luster and not so much the hairlines(unless they look much worse in hand) that pointed towards a cleaning/overdipping.

I agree with D0ubl3Eagle that whizzing is not what I see. I'm no expert either though.

Cleaned at some point, yes.
Not harshly though.
AU55 Details IMHO

thanks for comments. I definitely learned something in regards to whizzing. I had thought that when you see a series of hairlines across the entire coin going in the same direction it was due to whizzing. I pretty much knew it was cleaned when I bought it. maybe it will tone up over time. it looks much better in hand and the hairlines are not as apparent as the pics show. I paid $77 for the coin. as to grade would anyone put it in the AU50 or AU55 range? I cant see any wear on this coin...MS60?

Strictly on details I would guess AU55. High AU coins usually have "rubs" on the high points of the design, not obvious wearing down of the surfaces.
