Hi everynumismatist If you are an american soccer fan (like me ), you probably follow the us open cup, for those who don't, its essentially the soccer version of march madness. The prize is 250k (i think) and a berth in the 2014-2015 concacaf champions league (a seperate tournament that determines the champion of all of north america, for more reading check out this website http://www.concacafchampions.com/pa...2856,00.html ). What's great about the Us open cup is that theoretically any american team could win it, from your amatuers with real jobs to teams from minor leagues, (and obviously the pros). The qualifying begins (its actually not the beggining but it is a winner gets through match) on Saturday with a play in match between FC Hasental and the San Diego flash. I am complete geek about the tournament and watch as many games as humanly possible in addition to tracking betting odds and other statistics . Anywho, there are some lower league clubs that I think are really going to surprise people this year. I think the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Orlando City, Harrisburg City Islanders, and the always giant-killing Michigan Bucks(who beat the chicago fire last year). If it were me I would pick these teams over most major league soccer teams. Harrisburg actually beat the Ny red bulls, and the New England Revolution in last year's tournament. It seems as if there's always a few upsets in every round. Anywho, The prize for the contest would be a cleaned 1995 ASE and an impaired 2012 maple leaf that I'm willing to give away to the winner, hopefully it would convert some of my fellow americans to love the beautiful game . SO even if you aren't a soccer fan! Even if you know knothing about soccer, it couldn't hurt right? Theres free silver to be won And again any american team could win the tournament, from amatuers, to the pros. (and anywhere in between) For non-americans, this is the american domestic club tournament, like the fa cup. Even if you are abroad join the contest, I think I can find a way to ship these coins wherever you may be. If you are interested, please reply to thread, and if we can get more than 8 people then I think I can come up with some rules an we can start. For more on the us open cup check out this website (they do not have a determined bracket as of yet, but I believe they will soon.) http://thecup.us/for last year's bracket, check out this link http://thecup.us/2012-us-open-cup-bracket/And if you don't know the rules of the beautiful game check out this website (its a little technical but still) http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/aff...11_12_en.pdfEdited by 1967Canadapenny 03/28/2013 7:14 pm

Well I honestly hate Soccer. Strictly Baseball, Football, and Golf over here. But I love silver, so I will try this. But bear with me, I know absolutely nothing about Soccer so if I make any ridiculous comments during this contest, my apologies. Lol. But what exactly is the contest?

Lol. that's ok, I admit I was once in the "soccer is boring" camp that many Americans are in. Trust me, the sport is addicting Quote: But what exactly is the contest? Well I think I'm going to take it round by round versus predicting the entire bracket, so I think what will happen is that the contestants will write who they think will advance in each round. Each contestant will receive 3 points if they correctly predict an outright win, 1 point for an overtime loss, 2 points for an overtime win, and 0 zero points for a loss. (a loss being they predicted that team to win, and they lost w/o overtime.) Plus bonus 5 points goes to whoever predicts the biggest winner, (eg. someone predicts the team a will beat team by the largest number of points for that round) I will calculate the total number of points after each round. With this point system your bracket won't destroyed by a major upset. (like my march madness bracket was with stupid harvard, and florida gulf coast ) Anywho, if anyone has any questions please ask, I'll post the official rules if we get enough people playing.

All I know is that you're not supposed to use your hands! I'll join the contest! Heck, I'll learn more about any sport when there's a chance at a nice prize like you're offering!

I'd give it a go. I would absolutely watch more football if only it were televised more than every four years.
