Hi guys. New here and I'm not collector at all but a bud of mine is and got me paying attention to money going through my hands any ways today I found something I thought was unquie and asked him and he had no idea. Here it is a 20 bill that starts. -II. Is this something I have never noticed a dash before but just started looking thank.

A picture would really help. Serial numbers start with letters on newer notes. Some older notes had symbols before the serial number.

Very interesting find. I am not real sure as to what the "-" means but I am looking forward to learning.

Could it just be a random ink spot that doesn't look so random?

I've never seen anything like that before, you have a dash and two prefix letters. Is there two suffix letters also? The first thought that came to mind is that it might be a $20 error note, but I've never seen an error like that before. could you post a picture of the entire front of the note? thanks!

I very interested in seeing what this is. Thanks for the picture and I can't for more. When you post pics, you may as well post a pic of the reverse as well. Does it have the anti counterfeit thread in it?

Possibly rare. From what I can tell, no one here knos for sure what it is yet. Usually known rarities are identified quickly. Never seen anything like this before. I'm interested to see what the experts say.

The fact that it is in front of one serial and not the other tells me that it should not be there. So I'm going with a not so random looking ink spot.

Ok so got some more info, the double II prefix is not an error, the II block $20 you have was printed in Sept. 2008 in Washington D.C. I am still trying to make out what the dash might be.

Perhaps there was a nick in the printing plate, that picked up extra -ink. Just a thought. If no one here knows what it is you may want to send it in to a TPG and see what they say about it. Perhaps the BEP ran out of positive serial numbers, so they started printing negative serials with out telling any one. j/k
