I'm surprised that the mint can't get some better pictures for this set. I got an email advertisement and the coins don't look very attractive in it. Clicking on the link, they don't look any better on their website. Check it out here: West Point 2 Coin Set, US Mint

I believe they use computer generated images/drawings as opposed to taking a picture of the actual finished product which I think would look a lot better

Just saw the mint email in my inbox - it's a must have for the total set. As far as being a future great collectable, anyone's call there.

Do you think the sales will be dramatically lower now that the price of Ag is so low and the price of this set is so high? Or will true collectors ignore the price of Ag and buy anyways? Will the big resellers purchase less? I used to think the mintage of this set would be incredibly high, but with the price of Ag now, I am not so sure.

I will get the set to maintain my on going collection. It will be interesting to see in hand what the new version will look like.

I am sure the mint knows how many annual collectors there are out there who are going to buy regardless of the price and they know they got you by the short hairs. But the casual collector and big resellers might not take the big plunge. I guess we will soon see.

I used to think the mintage of this set would be incredibly high, but with the price of Ag now, I am not so sure. Its really hard to say because the sellers did eat it on the sets last year which would lead to more caution on future buys. Then again they may not care and just use it as a loss leader. Flippers how ever probably would back off. Ag is much lower which may keep some people away. The thing though that kind of throws common sense and past history out the window is that theres and entirely new never before offered type of ASE in the set. You can try and break it down all day long but at the end of the day a brand new ASE may cause people to just say I dont care I want that and I want it in large amounts

I am curious about these being for sale for 1 month only as there won't be any limit on how many can be ordered. In the past, do items sold like this end up having extra value later or because so many have the possibility of being sold, does it kind of kill the value of them later.
To be honest, I was thinking about picking up one for myself and one that could maybe be sold later but it sounds like there might not be a huge market for them with the possibility of so many being sold.
Thanks.

Last years is the only one I am aware of that has done this. The raw sets from last year have gained no value at all last time I checked. The graded 70s will get a premium regardless of mintage. This one does have a new ASE in it which is a wild card for what will happen. Generally though with the mint to demand the sellers end up buying massive amounts of these sets and theyres no shortage of them anywhere on the market. The one thing you can do is order day 1. If its like last year the shipping took forever with the final days not shipping till October or November. If you get your set right away you have a better shot of selling it to someone getting sick of waiting. If its in the last batch though unless the new ASE brings a good premium there will be so many on the market after ebay fees you might be lucky to break even

In the very short to short term, mint-to-demand will suppress/depress aftermarket price jump. This is a good thing for average collectors like us. In the long term, it will depend on the demand (ie: the popularity of the set in particular and the series in general). Just looking back at the 2006 set. The price was in the $200 range for a very long time, it only jump significantly when the 2011 set coming out. As the trend, the USMint is going toward making the RP as a series so in the long run, this will be a must have set/coin for any ASE Proof collectors. I will definitely sock away 2 sets. If I have spare money then I'll buy 1 or 2 extra to save/set aside. There are not potential for quick return (ie: flipping) like the 2011 ASE set. Just consider your extra set is a saving and can be use toward trading for other coins latter. Two coins set w/ a fancy box for $140 is quite reasonable when you consider the uniqueness of these coins. Regular ASE Proof is already $60+ for each coin already and some of the earlier date can cost even more; not only that the Proof ASE mintages are huge, compare to this set (I assume this set will not sell for around 250K, probably not more than 300K total, considering the current silver market condition). Quality can be a big concern so you should order early and check the coins on delivery. As of now, I have 3 set of 2011 & 2012.... I will eventually get the missing coins & another raw set of the 2006. This will be a very good series to start/continue working on because it's still early in the series and you can acquire pretty much all of them now. The other ASE set that I am struggling is the Proof ASE because there are so many of them to acquire (I'm about half way there).

Good point, but the 2011s limited mintage is and people missing out is also what got a lot of people chasing the 06 as an alternative. The question is will we see that again? Its just speculation but if the 11 was mint to demand as well I dont think we would have seen the big bump in the 06
