In case anyone cares, I emailed the mint and asked if they'll have a sales counter on the 2013 ASE West Point listing on the mint's web site. Here's the response. Quote: Dear Tom,
Thank you for your inquiry.
We are pleased to inform you that we will implement the sales counter for the 2013 American Eagle West Point Two-Coin Silver Set. As a reminder, the counter will reflect "unit sales," not individual orders.
We appreciate your interest.
Kind regards, United States Mint

Interesting. The Mint still had "TBD" in the issue with a May/June time frame. Hard to get a straight answer out of any Government Agency now. We may have to invoke FOIA protocols.

I thought it was announced that sales would start on May 13th and end on June 13th.....

I think the May 13 \ June 13 was actually the year 13 and not the day. I assume they will start the sale on some random day in May and end 30 days later in June. Glad to hear they will have the infamous sales ticker running again. If the quality is better on this year's set, you might see somewhere close to 500 K sold I'm gussing.

I knew I read it somewhere: From the "Mint News Blog" Quote: Preliminary information was provided regarding the contents of the set and its period of availability. It was indicated that the sets would be available during a one month window open from May 13 to June 13, 2013

Depending on the price, if its $149 again in the 250K range, if $199 sub 200K's. Even though the coin is differently manufactured and exciting to most collectors of ASEs, the average collector won't bother - silver at $75 or $100/oz is niche territory like Perth or the RCM with very limited runs. If it's not a new design, the coin is just more of the same.

I agree with Bizybackson on this one. If the mint gets too crazy with the price then it will impact sales. The coins in the set are appealing to me and if it is $149 again this year, I will definitely order it. If it is $199, I will probably pass on it.

Ill be getting some the only question is whether I get them straight from the mint graded or both. I like these sets and the RPs a lot, throw in the new coin and I'm on board but do hope the price stays reasonable and they dont repeat sneaking a coin into another set without saying it

Hey Foxwoods......I asked Michael @ the Mint News Blog about this a few weeks ago, here was his response.... In response to a question from this morning: "Where did you find the exact date these coins will go on sale?" The date range comes from this article http://numismaster.com/ta/numis/Art...icleId=26199It might have been referring to the year as you suggest. Even if it is the day, it is probably still subject to change

I interpret THAT article as May '13 to Jun '13 and not the specific dates that I mentioned previously...
...and since the set is coming out next month one would think we would at least have a date of issue by now...
Probably waiting for a price point determination but, if they keep waiting, silver will be at $25 by the time they decide and make their inflated price seem extreme...

Quote: Probably waiting for a price point determination but, if they keep waiting, silver will be at $25 by the time they decide and make their inflated price seem extreme... http://mintnewsblog.com/2013/04/201...elease-date/It does seem pretty extreme... $150. We are talking close to 3X the price with silver in a downward trend. So... lets speculate a little! They seem beautiful coins and ¿possibly the first in a new annual set? Who out there is getting this set now they have a price? If someone really wants it... Is it better to get it directly from the mint? What about pre-graded (PF69 vs. 70?) vs grading it yourself? How is the raw and/or individual option? The thing is, I am still yet to purchase any proof PM coins from the mint. I would like to and this is one of the options that intrigues me. But then this issue arrives regarding the wild world of the markets. So now I wonder, what is the best way to aquire such a beautiful coin? I figure I have the fine folks here to ask their opinions and plans. Thanks! P.S. I am in my twenties... thinking long term. I very much doubt I would flip any coin, especially an expensive one bought from the mint.

Quote: Is it better to get it directly from the mint? Depends on the after market. Usually yes for special sets but with an unlimited mintage a lot get bought to resell. You can find 2013 sets for cheaper than the mint sold them but last time I checked it wasnt like it was a huge crash and they were everywhere. If you want one Id just order what you want. If you find it cheaper elsewhere you can cancel the order or return, you cant order once its done though. Quote:
What about pre-graded (PF69 vs. 70?) vs grading it yourself? If you want 70s absolutely buy it that way. Even if half of them come back 70s (remember thats out of pre screened coins) theres no assurance both of yours will or even one will. People took a bath on grading last year trying to send the sets in hoping for 70s to flip. The 69 makes it very likely youll get what you want but it will all depend on the after market if its cheaper or not. You can usually get the 69 graded sets for slightly more than they raws. Really if you want graded just buy it graded, thats the only way to assure you get what you want.
