I only have the two pictures and have spotted a couple of what I belive to be carbon spots (specks). There is one on each of the eagle wings, one by the you in united, and one below the E in one.

These are the only pictures I have.

Side note: I've never tried to purchase MS coins before off ebay until yesterday. Give me your opinions on grade, the seller listed them as proof like.

Also is it worth to get graded or will the specks take so much off its not worth a bother.

I don't think it could go higher than a 64 due to the marks to the left of the eagle on the reverse, too detracting

Will post more pictures when I get it and is there anyway I can remove those specks with out destroying the coin. I was thinking a of using some type of solution, a needle, magnifying glass, and another needle with distilled water, and a lent free cloth. There has to be something I could do, it just seems so small.

Either way I pray its just some little specks of dirt on the holder. But I'm not getting my hopes up.

Looks MS, perhaps as high as MS-64, limited by marks by the eagle and below P of PLURIBUS. Luster looks pretty good (frosty, not prooflike), with perhaps a bit of dullness on Liberty's cheek and neck. Slight strike weakness on Liberty's ear should not affect the grade. The little spot on the edge of the eagle's wing might come off with an acetone soak. I wouldn't try poking with a needle since if you slip a scratch would be a much worse defect than the original spot.

This is common coin, valued by PCGS at $92 in MS-64 and $260 in MS-65. If it grades MS-65 the grading fee will have been a good investment; any lower result would mean the fee was wasted IMO. In any case, this is a nice type coin and should be appreciated as such.

I vote don't worry about the specks. Beautiful 1898! Be proud of her! Care to share how much you spent?

Thx,
Jay
