Hello, I've got a question; This 1925 Standing Liberty quarter I just purchased appears to have good detail, but not good enough to be this clean.

Was this coin cleaned? Recently? If so, can it be graded?

Thank you in advance.

there's a lot of washout on the lighting but it looks dipped to me
define recently - if you mean in the past decade, I'd say yes

if dipped, it will wind up in a problem labeled holder as cleaned. It will, and already has, a severe reduction in market value as a cleaned coin.

did you get that on the bay by chance?

I agree that this coin looks cleaned even though
the pic leaves a lot to be desired in terms of quality.

The pics remind me of a seller on ebay from Portland Oregon. Definitely looks cleaned and polished.

Yeah, that's the one. Looks like they've created another name on ebay too.

I figured.

Raybutler, its your choice as to the kinds of coins you want to collect.

I would never judge one another to a place where its destructive criticism but I can tell you that you're far better off not buying five problem coins and pooling that money for one problem free coin. In the end you'll be happier and fall more along the lines of having a serious collection (again IMO)

I have handled his coins about a year ago and I can tell you that this quarter is going to be dull and lifeless as the entire outer layer of silver sulfide has been stripped and will not come back, ever. This coin, unless artificially manipulated, will never tone or color.

I hope you realize my opinion is not meant to make you feel bad or insult you. I wish I could pour genuine emotion into email so its not mistaken for harsh wording.

That sucks, It was the only one I could find with full shield and good details.

I got burned on this one and it's probably worth less than my worn but toned 1926-D.

I'm attempting to cancel the order, if he agrees. I really need to do my homework on cleaned/polished coins.

what was his price?

here are some examples of what you can get by pooling your money as suggested previously:

look at this first one

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1925-Standi...em35c27b6cc3

a bit pricey here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1925-Standi...em5d3ba5c811

really budget for the eye appeal, few environmental marks but a great coin for the money IMO:

want slabbed?

you see the point - take your time, look around, MOST IMPORTANT BE PATIENT...the "one" will present itself eventually. And you get hit in the head with the proverbial meteorite before you ever get the coin, hey, more inheritance for the kids!

The price was $34.00 but I got the refund so no problem.

I'll take your advice and be more patient in the future.

I really like the third one, for the price, I'm going to look a little though, I've learned my lesson.

As always, I get great advice from you, I really appreciate it.

Ha, I just checked, it was the boys up in PDX. They have like three entire pages of bad juju, 67 negative feedbacks. Not to mention all the neutrals.

52Raymo - I just checked and you are right 67 negatives and a bunch of neutrals.

I didn't check the individual feedbacks, I just saw the 99.6% rating and thought that was good.

I'll start checking the responses on those high volume sellers.

Thanks, I'm getting an education about ebay.

Here is a 1926-D quarter that I've had for awhile, do you think it's good or AG? Does the toning help the value?

I think you're right in that area and everybody loves a toner.
