@SPP-Ottawa - Awesome collaborative effort underway. :-) I'd honestly love to have a number of currently circulating Canadian counterfeits up on The Black Cabinet and physically in the stacks for reference, but the latter part is tough as they cannot be legally exported over here to the States, either. So instead, could I beg you for some high resolution pictures of your finds and their metrics? The checklist of basic metrics an entry page has is under "3) Digital Black Cabinet Attribution" on http://fakes.numismetrica.com/count...attribution/ .

I am working with CCF, to built a "virtual cabinet" of Canadian counterfeit coins, complete with descriptions so that novice collectors have a reference at their fingertips.
FYI - A lot of the images of the more recent Made-in_China Canadian counterfeit coins are not mine, you may want to send nickelsguy a PM.
As for the 2005 counterfeit $2 coin, the photos provided by the person who started this thread, john517, are far superior to mine - maybe he can send you high resolution photos, and I could send you all the gory details...

Arrived today... many thanks. Your photos were superb, however, do you have higher resolution versions of those photos?

I just emailed you the full resolution pictures. If you don't get them PM me and I will resend. Those are the only 3 that I have.

I got a 2005 fake today and out of curiosity I put it in the pop machine and IT WORKED.
Do counterfeiters calibrate the weight of these things to match the real toonies? Anyone weighed a fake one?

That's what happens when you debase your currency and the coins all look like they came out of Cracker Jack boxes. Hard to tell what is RCM or out of a machine shop these days. Same problem in UK with pound coins. No one cares a toss and they just keep getting passed along.

slightly off topic but I am curious, the law quoted states 'money' and not 'currency', how does it (if at all) affect demonetized coinage (more specifically colonial issues). ebay doesn't allow counterfiets , yet a lot of the currency of the time (early to mid 1800s) was supported by non official issues and are seen regularly on the 'bay, coin show floors and auction houses . how does Canadian law consider these? and what is the line between contemporary counterfeits and (similar) more modern issues like the twoonie?

Canadian and Provincial coins 1858 to present are legal tender and ALL counterfeits of these, contemporary or recently made are subject to counterfeit laws. Coins and tokens pre-1858 are not legal tender and not subject to the counterfeit laws.

I thought about giving them away (being fake coins) because legally I can't keep them but I have 150+ different Toonie errors and Varieties in my collection and they fit perfectly, so I don't think I'm going to part with any just yet, sorry. (Nickels guy if I find another it's yours!) I know I shouldn't be keeping them (save the speeches ) I just see them as another variety in my collection. Here's a few pics..(They aren't that good only have my phone) 7.77g...
