I purchased an 1859 Mexican 1/4 real last week. It was a nice looking example, with some good details.

Ebay-Issue?

This is the coin that showed up. I know it's not a great photo (I took it on my cell phone) but it is pretty clear that this isn't the coin I bought.

Ebay-Issue?

I contacted the seller, thinking that there was simply a mistake and he had shipped the wrong coin. I haven't heard back yet but in the mean time I did a search on completed sales to see if he had listed the coin that I received and shipped the wrong one. That's when I found this coin.

Ebay-Issue?

This one was sold by the same seller about two months before I bought mine. Except for the price - which was slightly lower that what I paid - the coin is identical.

What do you guys think about this?

Either he sent the wrong coin by mistake or hes doing bait and switch using better photos then what hes sending. Give him a day or two to respond and make it right and if you havent heard from him open a buyer protection case.

I see that a seller had two auctions that completed at 1:45 on March 25.
One coin was detailed (sold for 23.50) and one coin was more worn (sold for 8.99).
I suspect he got them mixed up.

Jerry,
I'm not seeing the other listing for a 1/4 real - can you please send a link? I did purchase a 1/8 real from the same seller on the same day for $8.99. That one also arrived without problems. There are some other 1/4 reals that were completed on that day but they are other years and clearly not the one I was sent. It's weird but I think that seller will make it right. I'm just hoping that he isn't doing a bait and switch.

My mistake, Patrick. I didn't notice that the denominations were different.

Can you add a link to your original purchase at the top? He may have had a stock photo. This happens when a seller has several of the same item that they are selling. It should have been said in the listing if he did.

This is quite fishy on the surface. However, I strongly urge you to give all possible benefit of the doubt prior to taking adverse action; even on ebay, honest people make dumb mistakes some times. Trust me on this.
